Lambda (, ) is an additional letter of theLatin script, based on the lowercase letterlambda from theGreek alphabet (λ). It is used inHeiltsuk,Liqʼwala,Kwakʼwala, andPilagá. In these languages, Latin lambda represents a variety oflateralphonemes. Thelower-case variant is ahomoglyph of lower-caselambda. The upper-case is a large variant of the lower case in Pilagá but a turnedY in North America.[1]
The letter appears in theLiqʼwala dialect ofKwakʼwala language, where it represents/tɬ/. InKwakʼwala, Latin lambda may also be used instead of the digraph⟨dƚ⟩.[2]
In theHeiltsuk dialect of NorthWakashan, Latin lambda represents/tɬ/ and may be alternatively rendered as⟨dh⟩.[3]
In thePilagá language, Latin lambda is used to represent/ʎ/.[1]
Unicode support was assigned to U+A7DA and U+A7DB in September 2024.[4][5]
