Thelabioscrotal swellings (genital swellings orlabioscrotal folds) are paired structures in themammalianembryo that represent the final stage of development of thecaudal end of the externalgenitals beforesexual differentiation. In humans, the two swellings merge:

• In thefemale, they become theposterior labial commissure. The sides of thegenital tubercle grow backward as thegenital swellings, which ultimately form thelabia majora; the tubercle itself becomes themons pubis.
• In themale, they become thescrotum.
