Kristóf Deák (Hungarian pronunciation:[ˈkriʃtoːfˈdɛaːk]; born June 7, 1982) is aHungarianfilm director,screenwriter,film producer andeditor who is best known for his work onSing, which earned him critical appraisal and recognition including theAcademy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the89th Academy Awards in 2017.[1][2][3]

Life

Starting his studies inelectrical engineering at theBudapest University of Technology and Economics, he later switched to theUniversity of Theater and Film's film production course.[4] During this time, he learned editing from his classmates, and subsequently worked as a freelance editor.[5][6] In 2010, he completed the MA in Film and TV Directing course at theUniversity of Westminster.[7]

In 2011, he directed episodes of the popular Hungarian television series Hacktion.

In 2017, his short film Sing won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
