Khaled Khoja (Arabic:خالد خوجة,Turkish:Halid Hoca, born 4 July 1965) is aSyrian-Turkish politician. He was the president of theNational Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces from 2015 to 2016.[3] He was born to aTurkish family, and can speak bothTurkish andArabic. He is a Turkish citizen since 1993.[4]
Khoja was born inDamascus in 1965. His ethnic background isSyrian Turkmen. He finished his highschool education inUbari,Libya.[5] During the rule of PresidentHafez al-Assad Khoja was detained twice. He studiedpolitical science inIstanbul University between 1985 and 1987.[5] But later he studied medicine inUniversity of Izmir,Turkey between 1987 and 1995.[5] After theSyrian uprising began in 2011, Khoja participated in founding of several opposition groups, including theSyrian National Council in October 2011. Before being elected as a National Coalition president he served as the National Coalition's representative in Turkey.[6] Khoja resigned from the National Coalition on 25 April 2018.[7]
Halid Hoca changed his name to Alptekin Hocaoğlu after he became a Turkish citizen.[8] He was among the founders ofAhmet Davutoğlu'sFuture Party in 2019.[5][8]
