Kat Coiro is an American film and television director. She directedMarry Me (2022) and directied and produced the CBS' showMatlock (2024). Other pilots include Roku'sThe Spiderwick Chronicles, Marvel'sShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law,Girls5eva,Florida Girls and others.

Early life

Coiro was born in Manhattan to parents Peter Eves and Gina Cunningham-Eves, who are of English and Italian American descent.[1][2] Her sister, Emmy Eves, became a production designer and worked as anart director on Coiro's first film.[1]

In ninth grade, Coiro enrolled in boarding school atInterlochen Arts Academy.[2] She taught theater at theUniversity of Miami summer arts camp and studied theater and Russian history atCarnegie Mellon University inPittsburgh, and later studied directing at theMoscow Art Theatre in Russia before moving to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking.[2]

Career

Coiro briefly worked as an actress. She appeared in an episode ofCharmed (season 5, episode 18) in 2003, in which she starred as a wood nymph. She appeared onJudging Amy,Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,Law & Order: Criminal Intent as well as other shows.

Coiro began her directing career writing, directing and producing micro-budget independent films, including her 2011 debutLife Happens withKrysten Ritter and 2013 festival favoriteAnd While We Were Here, which she shot in Italy in 11 days for $150,000 while pregnant. She transitioned into television, directing episodes of shows includingDead to Me,Modern Family,Shameless andIt's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. She produced and directed the pilot and multiple episodes of the television seriesMatlock,Girls5eva,Florida Girls andShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and directed and executive produced the majority of episodes for the latter series. Her filmMarry Me, was released in 2022 byUniversal Pictures and opened at number one in theaters on Valentine's Day.

Personal life

Coiro is married to actorRhys Coiro, whom she directed inLife Happens andShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law. They have three children.[1] Coiro lives with her family in Los Angeles.[3]
