Kamiar 'Kami' Rokni (Urdu:کامیار روکنی) is a Pakistanifashion designer andmedia personality. He is the founder of his eponymous label,The House of Kamiar Rokni.
Kamiar was born inBahawalpur on 15 October 1976, ofPakistani andPersian descent. His father is fromIran, and his mother is fromBahawalpur in South Punjab.[1] Raised in a creative family surrounded by culture, art, creators, and tinkerers, Kamiar started making clothes at the age of seven.[2]
In late 2007, he launched his own fashion label,The House of Kamiar Rokni.[3]
In 2008, Kamiar began hosting a show calledNo Reservations onDawn News, where celebrities were invited for a candid talk about their lives.[4]
In early 2018, it was announced that Kamiar Rokni had joined Sapphire as a Design Director while simultaneously continuing his eponymous label.[5]
Kamiar mentors the 'Emerging Talent' segment of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council.[6]
In 2008, Kamiar Rokni was nominated for aLux Style Award in the 'Best Prêt Wear' category.[7] In 2017, he was nominated again, this time for the category of 'Achievement in Fashion Design—Bridal'.[8]
Two of Kamiar Rokni's designs opened the 'artist' and the 'prom queen' segments at theLahore Grammar School Defence branch fashion show in 2008, which was held to raise funds for the Smile Again Foundation.[9]
In 2014, Kamiar partnered withPorsche Pakistan to create a capsule collection based on the theme of Polo.[10]
In 2016, he collaborated withL'Oréal Paris Pakistan on their Ambassador of Fashion platform by creating a capsule collection for the 'Art of Color' campaign.[11]
Kamiar designed a custom-made dress forMeesha Shafi[12] for the Magnum Chocolate Party of 2017 in Lahore, Pakistan. As Meesha performed her track, her dress was illuminated usingprojection mapping by the light artist, Umer Toor.[13]
