Kaliłów[kaˈlʲiwuf] is a village in the administrative district ofGmina Biała Podlaska, withinBiała Podlaska County,Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 9 km (6 mi) north-east ofBiała Podlaska and 102 km (63 mi) north-east of the regional capitalLublin.
Following the joint German-Sovietinvasion of Poland, which startedWorld War II in September 1939, the village wasoccupied by Germany. From May to October 1941, the Germans operated theStalag 307prisoner-of-war camp in the village.[2] About 13,000 of the 140,000 POWs died there, and afterwards the camp was relocated toDęblin.[2] In January 1943, the Germanspacified the village, murdering 23 inhabitants. It was a reprisal for the residents' aid to the POWs andresistance activities.
