KCBC (770AM) is acommercialradio station broadcasting aChristian talk and teachingradio format. It isLicensed toManteca, California, withradio studios and offices inOakdale. The station is owned by theCrawford Broadcasting Company with the license held by subsidiary Kiertron, Inc.[2]
By day, KCBC is powered at 50,000watts, coveringStockton andSacramento to the north, parts of theSan Francisco Bay Area includingSan Jose to the west, as well asSalinas,Monterey andSanta Cruz.[3] Because770 AM is aclear channel frequency, KCBC must reduce power at night to 4,100 watts to reduce interference. Programming is also heard on 250 wattFM translator 94.7K234CV inModesto.[4]
KCBC has a schedule of national and local religious leaders. The station isbrokered, with hosts paying KCBC for time on the air. During their programs, they may seek donations to their ministries. Hosts includeDavid Jeremiah,Charles Stanley,J. Vernon McGee andJim Daly.
On April 5, 1987, the station firstsigned on the air.[5] Its originalcity of license wasRiverbank, California, and its firstcall sign was KPLA. It was owned by the KPLA Partnership, airing a Christian format. The studios and offices were in Oakdale, as they are now.
KPLA had atalk radio format from 1991 until 1993. It is the former home toconservative talk show host Geoff Metcalf. It later changed its city of license to Manteca, returning to Christian radio when acquired by Crawford Broadcasting.
