Joshua Alan Austin Newbury[1] is a BritishLabour Party politician who has served asMember of Parliament (MP) forCannock Chase since 2024.[2]

Career

Newbury was previously a primary carecommunications manager at NHS Birmingham and Solihull.[3] His other previous roles included being the communications and engagement lead atCoventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, a stakeholder engagement manager atHealth Education England and a Senior Parliamentary officer at the Energy and Utilities alliance.[3]

Newbury has been Councillor for Norton Canes Ward since 2019, and was also the deputy leader of the council until his resignation from the post after his election toParliament in July 2024.[4] He stated following his election as an MP that he plans to stand down from the council in March 2025.[5]

Newbury was selected as theLabour Party candidate forCannock Chase for the2024 general election,[6] with Labour LeaderKeir Starmer visiting the constituency to promote Newbury's campaign on 2 July 2024 shortly before the election.[7][8] Newbury defeated incumbent Conservative MPAmanda Milling in the election and won 15,671 votes in the election, with a majority of 3,215.[9][10]

Personal life

He has described himself as a "proudgay man".[11] He and his husband have a daughter.[5]
