José María Massaroli (born September 30, 1952) is an Argentinecomics artist, born inRamallo Partido.
He studied arts at theInstituto Ida withAngel Borisoff,Narciso Bayón andPablo Pereyra. In 1973, he published his first comic book stories in theManuel García Ferré's magazines:Hijitus andLarguirucho. He learned the finer points of the profession fromLito Fernández. In 1975, he commenced drawing realistic stories for theColumba Publishing house:Haakon andTres X La Ley (byH. G. Oesterheld), andDennis Martin (byRobin Wood). Then he worked for other publishing houses such as:Record Publishing,Universo Publishing (Italy) andD.C. Thomson (UK).
He switched to humour in 1981 and cooperated with Operación Ja Ja andRico Tipo. In 1982, he created Orquídeo Maidana for theCaras y Caretas magazine. In 1983, he created a series of biographies for the daily newspaperLa Voz (adapted for the comics medium) ofJuan Moreira,Manuel Dorrego,Facundo Quiroga andChacho Peñaloza.
In 1985, he joined the Jaime Díaz Studios as alayout man and participated in several TV series such asAladdin,Timon & Pumbaa,Wildfire,Scooby-Doo,The Smurfs,The Jetsons, andThe Pink Panther, while continuing to createterror stories for the German comic book seriesGespenster Geschichten (Bastei-Verlag editions). He also published in magazines likeSex Humor,Fierro,Satiricón andZona 84. Since 2006, he has been writing the scripts for theLos Grutynos comic strip, published inArgentine Patagonia.
In the early 1990s, Massaroli began drawing stories forDisney television and the AmericanDisney Adventuresperiodical publication. He has additionally created stories withThe Flintstones and illustrations for theLook and Find books. Under the guidance ofDaniel Branca, he was introduced to the Danish publisher ofDisney comics;Egmont. Massaroli has been drawingDuck stories for Egmont since 1997.
