Jonathan Edward Russell (born 9 October 2000) is a professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forEFL League One sideBarnsley.[3] Born in England, he represents theJamaica national team.
Born inHounslow, Russell joinedChelsea at under-7 level.[4] He turned professional in October 2017.[4] He moved on loan toAccrington Stanley in October 2020.[5] He moved toHuddersfield Town in July 2021.[2] He scored his first goal for the club on 23 February 2022 when he scored a late winner in a 2–1 win againstCardiff City.[6]
On 31 January 2023, Russell joinedEFL League One sideBarnsley for an undisclosed fee.[7][8]
On 13 September 2022, Russell was called up by theJamaica national football team.[9]
On 26 March 2023, Russell makes his debut for Jamaica in the2022–23 CONCACAF Nations League group play match againstMexico entering in the 66th minute forRavel Morrison.[10]
He has been described as "a very tall box-to-box midfield player who can also play as a number 10 and has a great eye for a pass".[4]
Russell is a member ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.[11]
