Life and politics

[edit]

Cotar was born 1973 inPitești,Romania and studiedGerman studies andpolitical science atUniversity of Mannheim.[1] During her time in college she was a member of the CDU.

Cotar entered the newly founded AfD in 2013 and became a member of the Bundestag after the 2017 German federal election.[2]

Cotar was a member of the party's federal executive board but did not seek reelection at the June 2022 AfD convention. She was part of the intra-party power struggle between the right-wing AfD-chairmenJörg Meuthen and the right-wing extremist members of the board. Cotar belongs to the Meuthen-fraction and has publicly criticized chairmanTino Chrupalla.[3]

According to her account, she left the AfD on 21 November 2022.[4] Cotar cited "the close proximity of leading AfD officials to the President of the Russian Federation" as reason for her resignation.[5]

Cotar decided against running for parliament in the2025 election.[6]
