James Thomas Gallagher Jr. (born March 24, 1961) is an Americanprofessional golfer andsportscaster.

Early life

Gallagher was born inJohnstown, Pennsylvania. His father, a career club pro, started him ingolf at age six. His sister,Jackie, and brother,Jeff, both became touring professionals.

He attended theUniversity of Tennessee inKnoxville.

Professional career

Gallagher turned pro in 1983 and joined thePGA Tour in 1984. He won five events on the PGA Tour. His first win came in 1990 at theGreater Milwaukee Open. In 1993, he won twice: theAnheuser-Busch Golf Classic andThe Tour Championship. He repeated his two-win performance in 1995 by winning theKMart Greater Greensboro Open and theFedEx St. Jude Classic. Gallagher's best finishes in amajor championship were a 3rd-place finish at the 1991PGA Championship, and a T-2 at the same tournament the following year.[2] He was a member of the victorious 1993Ryder Cup team and the 1994Presidents Cup team.

Gallagher, who works as a golf analyst forGolf Channel, has appeared in a limited number of events on theChampions Tour since reaching age 50 in 2011. He had two top-10 finishes in this venue in both 2011 and 2013.

Personal life

Gallagher's wife, Cissye, is a formerLPGA Tour player. They have four children: Mary Langdon, Thomas, Kathleen, and Elizabeth. Kathleen plays golf atLSU.[3]

Gallagher lives inGreenwood, Mississippi.[3]
