Javier Olaizola Rodríguez (born 28 November 1969) is a Spanish retiredfootballer who played as aright-back , currently amanager .
Most of his 13-year professional career was spent withMallorca , with whom he appeared in 333 competitive matches and won two major titles.[ 1] [ 2]
Born inSan Sebastián ,Gipuzkoa , Olaizola's first professional club wasSD Eibar in his nativeBasque Country , in theSegunda División . Subsequently, he played two seasons withReal Burgos CF , going on to suffer two consecutive relegations and returning for a second spell with his previous team afterwards.[ 1]
In 1995, Olaizola signed forRCD Mallorca , immediately becoming an undisputed starter as well as theircaptain [ 3] [ 4] Balearic Islands side to the1998 edition of theSupercopa de España againstLa Liga giantsFC Barcelona ,[ 5] the following year 'sUEFA Cup Winners' Cup .[ 6] last-minute equaliser atRC Celta de Vigo (2–2).[ 7]
Olaizola totalled only 27 matches in his last two years, due to several injuries and age,[ 8] [ 9] Antiguoko (also a youth club, in the Basque region).[ 10]
On 6 December 2016, followingFernando Vázquez 's dismissal, Olaizola – who was in charge ofthe reserves – became coach of Mallorca, who now competed in the second tier.[ 11] [ 12]
Olaizola returned to reserve management on 6 March 2018, taking overAtlético Levante UD ofTercera División .[ 13] won their group and then promotion on penalties againstUD Ibiza in theplay-off final , he left.[ 14]
In June 2019, Olaizola was appointed atArenas Club de Getxo in theSegunda División B .[ 15] CD Tudelano ,[ 16] Segunda Federación .[ 17]
Olaizola's older brother,Julio (19 years his senior), was also a footballer and a defender. He played ten top-flight seasons withReal Sociedad .[ 9]
