Javakheti Plateau (Georgian:ჯავახეთის პლატო) is avolcanic plateau within theCaucasus Mountains that covers theSamtskhe-Javakheti region ofGeorgia, along the border withTurkey andArmenia. Its elevation is over 2,000 m.[citation needed][vague]
The plateau is a large grassland plain (alpine steppe) with manywetlands and alpinelakes (six of the largest lakes of Georgia,Tabatskuri,Paravani,Khanchali,Madatapa,Kartsakhi,Saghamo).
The Javalkheti Wetlands are included in theRamsarList of Wetlands of International Importance.
The plain is crossed from north to south by theAbuli-Samsari Mountain Range, a series ofvolcanic cones. The western side of the plateau is surrounded by theJavakheti Range.[1]
