Jangan District (Korean: 장안구;RR: Jangan-gu), established on July 1, 1988, is the northern district of the city ofSuwon inGyeonggi Province, South Korea. It is approximately 15 km. from centralSeoul.
Jangan District lies in the north ofSuwon. It is bordered byUiwang to the north-west,Yongin to the north and east,Yeongtong District to the south-east,Paldal District to the south andGwonseon District to the south west.
Jangan District's northern border, withYongin, is the mountain ofGwanggyosan. At 582 metres abovesea level,[2] this isSuwon's highest point.
Most of the streams passing through Suwon originate in Jangan District, onGwanggyosan or other nearby peaks. SinceSuwon is bounded to the east by other hills, the streams, chiefly theSuwoncheon, flow southwards through the city, eventually emptying into theYellow Sea atAsan Bay. The entirety ofSuwon is drained in this manner.

Jangan District is home toSuwon Civil Stadium, a multi-purpose sports complex which hosted thehandball events of the1988 Summer Olympics, and which is now home toKT Wiz baseball team andSuwon FC football team.[3]
The area also containsManseok Park, a recreational area surrounding a small reservoir.
