Jade Cargill (born June 3, 1992) is an Americanprofessional wrestler. As of September 2023,[update] she is signed toWWE, where she performs on theSmackDownbrand. She is a former two-timeWWE Women's Tag Team Champion. She is also known for her career inAll Elite Wrestling (AEW) from 2020 to 2023, where she was the inauguralAEW TBS Champion; her single reign of 508 days is the longest for any AEWchampionship.

Early life

Cargill was born inGifford, Florida.[13][14] She is ofJamaican descent and her father was afirst generation immigrant from Jamaica.[15][7] She began playingbasketball at the age of six.[13] She attendedSebastian River High School,Florida Air Academy, andVero Beach High School, helping her teams to two basketball district championships.[16] In 2009, Cargill playedAmateur Athletic Union basketball for theOrlando Comets.[17]

Cargill attendedJacksonville University, where she played basketball for theJacksonville Dolphins as aforward/guard.[3][17] In her sophomore year, she was namedAtlantic Sun Player of the Week.[18] In her senior year, she led the Jacksonville Dolphins inrebounds andsteals,[3] and was named to the Atlantic Sun Preseason First Team.[17] While at Jacksonville University, Cargill joined the Omicron Delta chapter of theAlpha Kappa Alpha sorority.[19] After graduating from Jacksonville University with asocial science degree, Cargill spent time in France, where she played basketball and modelled.[13][20] Cargill later attained amaster's degree inchild psychology[21] and worked withfoster children as a child psychologist until 2019.[22]

Professional wrestling career

Training (2018–2023)

Interested in becoming a professional wrestler, Cargill was introduced toWWE veteranMark Henry by a mutual friend.[13][2] Taking advice from Henry, who she described as her "mentor", in 2018 Cargill attended the Face 2 Faceprofessional wrestling school inMorrow, Georgia owned byHeath Slater,Ron Simmons, andTeddy Long.[2][8][9][23] In April 2019, Cargill attended a WWE tryout at theWWE Performance Center.[3][24] Subsequently, Cargill began training atAR Fox's WWA4 Academy.[6] She then trained at Nightmare Factory underQ. T. Marshall andDustin Rhodes.Sonjay Dutt andBryan Danielson started coaching her when they arrived inAll Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2021, at the request of AEW founder and ownerTony Khan.[8][9][10] After signing with WWE in 2023, she received training from their Performance Center.[22]

All Elite Wrestling (2020–2023)

Cargill made her professional wrestling debut with AEW on the November 11, 2020, episode ofDynamite onTBS, interruptingCody Rhodes, and teasing the arrival ofShaquille O'Neal.[25] The next day, Tony Khan announced that Cargill had signed a multi-year contract with AEW.[26] She beganfeuding with Rhodes and his wifeBrandi,[27] leading to atag team match pitting her and O'Neal against Rhodes andRed Velvet on the March 3, 2021, episode ofDynamite; the match was won by Cargill and O'Neal.[12] On the March 17 episode ofDynamite, Cargill wrestled her first singles match, defeating Dani Jordyn.[28] DespiteMatt Hardy offering hismanagerial services to Cargill, he was shunned in favor ofMark Sterling, which was announced on the May 28 episode ofDynamite.[29] Over the following months, Cargill defeated opponents includingLeyla Hirsch andKiera Hogan.[12] AtAll Out in September 2021, Cargill competed in aCasino Battle Royale to determine the number one contender to theAEW Women's World Championship that was won byRuby Soho.[12]

Cargill asAEW TBS Champion; she held the championship for 508 days

In October 2021, it was announced that Cargill would participate in a tournament to determine the inauguralAEW TBS Champion, and would be one of four women to receive a first roundbye.[30] Cargill went on to defeat Red Velvet in the quarterfinals on November 24[31] andThunder Rosa in the semifinals on December 29.[32] On January 5, 2022, she defeatedRuby Soho in the tournament final to become the TBS Champion.[33] Cargill was named "Rookie of the Year" for 2021 by bothPro Wrestling Illustrated[34] and theWrestling Observer Newsletter.[35] Throughout early 2022, Cargill continued her undefeated streak and retained her title against numerous opponents, includingThe Bunny,[36]Tay Conti,[37]Willow Nightingale,[38] andLeila Grey.[39] In mid-April 2022, she formed her ownstable called the Baddies, which consisted of her, Kiera Hogan and Red Velvet.[40] AtDouble or Nothing,Stokely Hathaway became her new manager, replacing Sterling.[41] In June 2022, Leila Grey became part of the Baddies, replacing an injured Red Velvet.[42] Around the same time, Cargill beganfeuding with the debutingAthena.[43][44][45] AtAll Out, Cargillsquashed Athena in a match that lasted less than five minutes.[46][47] After defeating other challengers such asMadison Rayne[48] andDiamante,[49] Cargill began a feud withNyla Rose, who stole her TBS Championship belt.[50][51][52] The feud between the two culminated atFull Gear, where Cargill defeated Rose to retain her title.[53] On January 5, 2023, Cargill reached the one-year mark as TBS Champion.[54] The following week, she became the longest-reigning champion in AEW's history at 373 days, surpassingHikaru Shida's 372-day reign as AEW Women's World Champion.[55]

Cargill's reign as TBS Champion lasted untilDouble or Nothing in May 2023.[56] At the event, Cargill made her entrance as her line sisters from the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority performed a dance routine to "Pretty Girls Walk" byBig Boss Vette.[19] Cargill defeatedTaya Valkyrie in a scheduled title defense, before she lost the title in an open challenge to the returningKris Statlander in less than 50 seconds, ending both her reign (at 508 days) and her 60-match unbeaten streak.[56] After a hiatus of several months, Cargill returned on the September 9 episode ofCollision, attacking Statlander.[57] On the September 15 episode ofRampage, Cargill lost to Statlander in a title rematch.[58] This marked Cargill's final match in AEW.[59][60]

WWE (2023–present)

Following Cargill's departure from AEW, she reported to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida in September 2023.[11] Later that month, WWE announced that Cargill had signed a multi-year contract and had begun training at the Performance Center.[61] She was WWE's first signing underTKO Group Holdings.[62] Cargill made her first appearance on WWE programming during theFastlane pre-show on October 7, where she was shown arriving at the arena and was met by WWEchief content officerTriple H.[63] She subsequently made brief appearances onRaw,NXT, andSmackDown, teasing which brand she would join.[64]

In January 2024, Cargill made her in-ring debut for WWE at theRoyal Rumble, competing in the women'sRoyal Rumble match. She entered the match at number 28, eliminatingNia Jax,Becky Lynch, andNaomi before being eliminated by the number 30 entrant,Liv Morgan.[65] Cargill was subsequently assigned to theSmackDown brand.[66] She made her debut on the March 29 episode ofSmackDown, saving Naomi andBianca Belair from an attack byDamage CTRL.[67] AtWrestleMania XL, Cargill, Naomi and Belair defeated Damage CTRL in asix-woman tag team match when Cargill pinnedDakota Kai.[68] AtBacklash France, Cargill and Belair defeatedthe Kabuki Warriors to win theWWE Women's Tag Team Championship.[69] Cargill then participated in the2024 Queen of the Ring tournament; she defeatedPiper Niven in the first round[70] but was eliminated after losing to Nia Jax in the quarterfinals bydisqualification.[71] AtKing and Queen of the Ring, Cargill and Belair successfully defended their titles againstCandice LeRae andIndi Hartwell.[72] AtClash at the Castle: Scotland, Cargill and Belair lost the titles tothe Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn) in atriple threat match;[73] they regained the titles atBash in Berlin.[74] They then retained atCrown Jewel.[75] In November, Cargill was written off television after she was mysteriously attacked backstage, removing her from theWarGames match atSurvivor Series: WarGames.[76][77] Naomi replaced her as the one-half of tag team champions in December.[78]

Cargill returned on March 1, 2025, atElimination Chamber, attacking Naomi before the women'sElimination Chamber match officially started and caused Naomi to be eliminated.[79] On the following episode ofSmackDown, Naomi revealed herself as the person that attacked Cargill.[80] On the April 4 episode, following another brawl, SmackDowngeneral managerNick Aldis scheduled a match between them atWrestleMania 41,[81] the first non-title women's singles match atWrestleMania since2006.[82]

Professional wrestling style and persona

Cargill wrestles in a powerhouse style.[citation needed] Her signature moves include abicycle kick and achickenwing facebuster which she calls Jaded.[2][83] While in AEW, she was nicknamed That Bitch.[19]

Cargill has credited female wrestlerChyna andX-Men characterStorm as her inspirations.[16][10] She has also citedJacqueline Moore andJazz as being among her favorite wrestlers.[84]

Personal life

Cargill met her partner, formerCincinnati Reds second basemanBrandon Phillips, in 2015; the couple have a daughter together.[13][88][89][90] In March 2023, Cargill and Phillips were announced as owners of theTexas Smoke, the fourth franchise ofWomen's Professional Fastpitch (WPF), based inAustin, Texas.[90][91][better source needed][92] Cargill's cousinPeter Cargill played for theJamaica national football team in the 1980s and 1990s.[2] Cargill's mother died in December 2023 due tocancer.[93]

Cargill is acosplayer, and has cosplayed as theMarvel Comics characterStorm.[6]
