Jonathan Fowler Chaplin (10 October 1882 – 15 April 1952) was a Scottishfootball player andmanager. Aleft back, Chaplin played forDundee over two spells,[1] winning theScottish Cup in1910, and represented theScottish League.[2] He also played forTottenham Hotspur[3] andManchester City in England.[4]
Chaplin signed for Tottenham Hotspur in May 1905 and didn't make his debut till November which occurred in theWestern League againstPlymouth Argyle.[5] He went on to make a total of 102 appearances for the club.[5]
He later managedHuddersfield Town[6] after serving as trainer underHerbert Chapman (formerly his teammate at Tottenham and boss atLeeds City),[7] leading the club to runners-up finishes in theFootball League in1926–27 and1927–28, and to the1928 FA Cup Final which they lost toBlackburn Rovers.[8]
His brothers were fellow professional playersGeorge Chaplin andAlex Chaplin.[9]
