Ithel Davies (1894 – 1989) was aWelsh political activist and barrister.
Born inAberystwyth, Davies was aconscientious objector duringWorld War I.[1][2] He joined theLabour Party, and stood unsuccessfully for it in theUniversity of Wales seat at the1935 United Kingdom general election.[1] From 1934 until 1936, Davies served on the executive of theSocialist League.[3]
DuringWorld War II, Davies andD. N. Pritt worked together to obtain the release ofT. E. Nicholas, a conscientious objector who had been falsely accused of being afascist.[4] After the war, Davies became active in theWelsh nationalist movement. He became the leading figure in theWelsh Republican Movement, a split fromPlaid Cymru, and stood for it inOgmore at the1950 United Kingdom general election, taking only 1.3% of the vote.[5]
