More recent study meanwhile assigns many of these taxa to other genera thanIsotoma, e. g.Desoria,Parisotoma, orVertagopus. Potapov (2001)[3] lists 14 validIsotoma species for the Palearctic realm, these are in bold in the list above. The most common species in Central Europe areIsotoma viridis, which dwells natural as well as disturbed habitats, whileI. caerulea prefers dryer habitats,I. anglicana cooler climates, andI. riparia streambanks and coastal shorelines.
