Ishaq al-Turk was an Iranian rebel who started a rebellion inKhorasan against theAbbasid Caliphate, after the murder ofAbu Muslim. Ishaq was aZoroastrian, or aKhurramite.
After Abu Muslim's murder at the orders ofal-Mansur, Ishaq fled toTransoxania, and declared a revolt on al-Mansur. He claimed that Abu Muslim was aprophet who was sent to reformZoroastrianism, thus starting one of many movements claiming prophethood or divinity forAbu Muslim. He also claimed descent fromYahya ibn Zayd. The Abbasid ruler ofKhorasan had him captured and executed. His group continued to be known as al-Muslimiyya(followers ofAbu Muslim Khorasani), and constitute the fundamentalideology of the sect well known asBābak’iyyāh in the future.
He received the sobriquet "Turk" because of his frequent visits among the Turks of Transoxania.
