TheInterlaken Lakeside Reserve is a wetland reserve atsubalpine Interlaken, lying at the north-western end of Lake Crescent on the Interlaken isthmus between thereservoirs of Lakes Sorell and Crescent, about 20 km west ofTunbridge, in theCentral Highlands ofTasmania,Australia. In 1982 it was designated awetland of international importance under theRamsar Convention.
The 520 ha Ramsar site is about one third open water and one third dry land, with the remaining third consisting mainly ofTriglochin procera –Baumea arthrophyllamarshland. Wetland conditions depend on management of water levels in Lake Crescent, which receives water from Lake Sorell and supplies it to theClyde River forirrigation in the Clyde Valley.[2][3]
The site is one of three known localities in Tasmania for thesedgesScirpus mantivagus andIsolepis montivaga, and for theswamp wallaby grassAmphibromus neesii. It is also important forwaterfowl, especiallyblack swans, for feeding, nesting and resting, as well as serving as adrought refuge. Lake Crescent supports a population ofgolden galaxias. Human activities includelivestockgrazing,sport fishing andduck shooting.[2][3]
