Im Soo-jung (Korean임수정; born July 11, 1979) is a South Korean actress and former model. After modeling for teen magazines, Im made her acting breakthrough inKim Jee-woon'shorror filmA Tale of Two Sisters (2003), followed by the populartelevision seriesI'm Sorry, I Love You (2004). She has since appeared in numerous films, notablyLump Sugar (2006),I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006),Happiness (2007),Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard (2009),Finding Mr. Destiny (2010) andAll About My Wife (2012), for which she won Best Actress at the33rd Blue Dragon Film Awards.[2]

Recently, she starred in the television seriesChicago Typewriter (2017),Search: WWW (2019), andMelancholia (2021).

Career

Im Soo-jung made her debut in 1998 as a cover model for teen magazines. She then moved onto acting and debuted in the teen dramaSchool 4,[3][4] but it wasKim Jee-woon's 2003 stylishhorrorA Tale of Two Sisters that first drew her critical notice and newcomer awards.[5][6]

Im in January 2004

A year later in 2004, the hitKBS2drama seriesI'm Sorry, I Love You catapulted her into stardom.[7][8] With Im looking much younger than her age, those projects solidified her image as an eternal ingenue, as did touching character study...ing,[9]horse jockey filmLump Sugar,[10] andPark Chan-wook's surrealistI'm a Cyborg, But That's OK.[11]

In 2007, she began shedding that image by taking on more adult roles,[12] notable among themHur Jin-ho's romantic melodramaHappiness,[13][14]Choi Dong-hoon's blockbusterfantasyJeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard,[15][16]romantic comedyFinding Mr. Destiny[17] andLee Yoon-ki's minimalist breakupindieCome Rain, Come Shine.[18] For her performance inAll About My Wife,[19][20] she won Best Actress at theBlue Dragon Film Awards,[21] and the Women in Film Korea Awards.[22][23]

Im andLee Jung-jae played two artists in a post-apocalyptic environment in theshort filmEl Fin del Mundo ("The End of the World"), which screened at the prestigious contemporary art exhibitiondOCUMENTA.[24][25] She also acted opposite veteran Thai actorSorapong Chatree inAditya Assarat's short filmPhuket, which was commissioned jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association of Tourism and Hotel Operators ofPhuket.[26][27]

Im was previously part of theSidusHQ agency, but moved to being managed byKeyEast. KeyEast launched her official website in June 2012. According to the actress, the online space will be a place where she can converse with her fans directly.[28][29]

In 2015, Im starred inPerfect Proposal, aremake of Britishcrime thrillerWoman of Straw that was partly shot inMacau.[30][31] She next starred inTime Renegades, a time-hopping romantic thriller where she played dual roles.[32]

In October 2015, her contract withKeyEast expired and she decided to sign with new management agency YNK Entertainment.[33][34]

Im then starred in the female-centric indie filmThe Table directed byKim Jong-kwan, which premiered at the21st Busan International Film Festival.[35]

In February 2017, Im was cast in the dramaChicago Typewriter alongsideYoo Ah-in. This marks Im's small screen come back after thirteen years since 2004.[36] The same year, she was named the cultural ambassador for the UK-Korea Creative Futures mutual exchange.[37] She then returned to the big screen withMothers based on the bookYour Request - My Other Mother byLee Dong-eun, who also directs the film.[38][39]

In 2019, Im returned to the small screen with the seriesSearch: WWW.[40][41]

In 2020, Im appeared the filmSingle in Seoul withLee Dong-wook.

In 2021, Im starred in thetvN dramaMelancholia alongsideLee Do-hyun.[42]

In 2022, Im's contract withKing Kong by Starship expired in August, and she decided not to renew the contract.[43]

In November 2024, Im signed with new agency MYM Entertainment.[44]
