"Illusions" is a song by American hip hop groupCypress Hill. It was written by membersB-Real andDJ Muggs, and produced by the latter, who used a sample ofGary Burton's song "Las Vegas Tango". It was released in February 1996 viaRuffhouse/Columbia Records as the second single from the group's third studio album,III: Temples of Boom. An accompanyingmusic video was directed byMcG.
The song did not make it to theBillboard Hot 100 singles chart in the United States, however, it peaked at number 3 on theBubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart, which acts as a 25-song extension to the Hot 100, number 87 on theHot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number 31 on theHot Rap Songs.
The song found better success in the United Kingdom, reaching number 23 on theUK singles chart, number 17 on the Official Dance Singles Chart and number 4 on the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles Chart. It also peaked at number 33 in New Zealand.
Q-Tip's remix version of the song appeared in Cypress Hill's 1996Unreleased and Revamped EP. The original song (retitled as "Ilusiones") was translated in Spanish for 1999 greatest hits albumLos grandes éxitos en español.
According toJames Masterton, the song marked a change in direction for Cypress Hill, "being more laid back than anything they have ever released before, so much so that it is almostambient in tone".[2]
