Anatomical terminology |
Theiliac colon is the portion of thedescending colon which is situated within the leftiliac fossa (between the crest of the leftilium, and thepelvic brim).[1] It is about 12 to 15 cm long.[2]
It curves inferior-ward and medial-ward anterior of theiliacus andpsoas muscles. It ends by transitioning into thesigmoid colon at thesuperior aperture of thelesser pelvis.[2]
It is covered byperitoneum only on its anterior and lateral surfaces.[2]
