Iceage is a Danishpunk rock band from Copenhagen.[1] The band was formed in 2008 and has released the albumsNew Brigade (2011),You're Nothing (2013),Plowing Into the Field of Love (2014),Beyondless (2018), andSeek Shelter (2021).
Iceage were formed in 2008, when the members of the band averaged 17 years old.[2] They signed to Escho to release their debut 7" in 2009[3] and later on also toTambourhinoceros in Denmark andDais Records in the United States. They were then picked up by What's Your Rupture? Records for international release,[4] and their debut albumNew Brigade was released in January 2011 inDenmark and on 21 June 2011, in the US.[5]
In February 2013, Iceage released their second studio album,You're Nothing, after signing with the independent record labelMatador Records.[6] It earned a four star rating (out of five) fromAllmusic and four-and-a-half stars out of five from Humo.[7][2]
Iceage's third studio album,Plowing Into the Field of Love, was released in October 2014 by Matador.[8][9] The album marked a shift for the band, moving away from their hardcore punk roots and embracing a broader sonic pallet, as well as influences likeNick Cave andLeonard Cohen. All three albums received a nomination forIMPALA'sEuropean Independent Album of the Year Award.[10] Iceage released their fourth album,Beyondless, on 4 May 2018 throughMatador.[11]
The band's chief songwriter and lead vocalist, Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, also performs under the name Marching Church and has released two albums:This World Is Not Enough (2015) andTelling It Like It Is (2016).[12]He released his first solo album,Heavy Glory in 2024.
On 7 May 2021, Iceage released their fifth albumSeek Shelter.[13] It was their first album working with an outside producer (Sonic Boom ofSpacemen 3), and their first album to feature guitarist Casper Morilla, who joined the band in 2019.
