TheHypolemmal cisternae is found within aperikaryon (cell body (soma) of aneuron not including the nucleus) and is a specialized part of theSmooth ER[1] that extends into thedendrites andaxon.[2][3] Hypolemmal cisternae is found directly beneath theplasmalemma and is continuous with theRough ER of the soma. Its function is unclear.
