Hong Kong FA Cup (Chinese:香港足總盃) is aknockout cup competition inHong Kongfootball, run by and named afterThe Hong Kong Football Association. The first edition of the competition was held in 1975, before then the cup was known as theGolden Jubilee Cup. Thecurrent season is the 51st edition of the event. 14 different teams have won the cup with 10-time championsSouth China being the most successful.
In the first three years, the semi-finals and the finals were two-legged events. If the aggregate result was drawn, there would beextra time after the second leg. Drawn ties afterextra time would be settled by a replay. However, this practice was abandoned in 1977. Since 1978, all matches have become one-legged, draws are settled byextra time andpenalty shootouts.
From 2013-2016, teams from theFirst Division,Second Division andThird Division were allowed to enter the competition through qualifying from the preliminary round. However, due to the huge difference in playing level between thePremier League and the lower levels below it, the cup has been limited to top-flight teams since the 2016–17 season.[1] The teams in the lower divisions are now competing in theFA Cup Junior Division.
The champion will also receive a prize of HK$350,000, while the runner-up will be awarded HK$150,000.[2]
The current FA Cup holders areEastern.
