Holst is a crater onMercury. Its name was adopted by theInternational Astronomical Union (IAU) on April 24, 2012.
Holst is one of 110peak ring basins on Mercury.[1] To the east is another peak-ring basin,Nabokov, of similar size. Holst lies in a topographic low near the center of the ancientLennon-Picasso Basin.
The plains around Holst are classified asintracrater plains which have rough topography, as opposed tosmooth plains (such asApārangi Planitia orBorealis Planitia). The intracrater plains are saturated withsecondary craters.[2]
Holst is named for the British composerGustav Theodore Holst.[3] Holst composed a musical suite calledThe Planets, including its third movementMercury, the Winged Messenger.
