Aheronry, sometimes called a heronrookery, is a breeding ground forherons.

Although their breeding territories are often on more protected small islands in lakes or retention ponds, herons breed in heronries (or also called rookeries, especially since other birds join them like spoonbills, storks, and cormorants). Some of the notable heronries are:

• Kaggaladu Heronry is inKarnataka state ofIndia. This heronry, in theTumkur district ofKarnataka, was first made known to the outside world in 1999 by members of theTumkur-basedNGO Wildlife Aware Nature Club.^[1]

• Cleeve Heronry (grid referenceST463662), in a woodland near the village ofCleeve inNorth Somerset, UK.
• Hilgay Heronry (grid referenceTL635992) is inNorfolk. It is situated in a small copse on the edge ofThe Fens in the UK. An average of c. 40 pairs ofgrey heron nests each year at this site, inash(Fraxinus excelsior) andEuropean larch(Larix decidua) trees.

• The Florida Everglades in south Florida, of the United States. Thousands of birds, including herons, egrets, spoonbills, and storks, nest inmangroves (genusRhizophora).
