Haplohippus is an extinct genus of the modernhorse familyEquidae, that lived in theEocene, from 42 to 38 million years ago. Fossil remains ofHaplohippus have been found in theClarno Formation, part of theJohn Day Fossil Beds National Monument of the Northwestern United States.[2] WhileHaplohippus is quite similar toOrohippus, it is considered more primitive in character thanEpihippus.[3]
