Hallet Ara (Arabic:حلة عارا) is aSyrian village in theJableh District inLatakia Governorate. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Hallet Ara had a population of 1,015 in the 2004 census.[1] Its inhabitants areAlawites. The village is built across a steepescarpment above the Hallet Ara valley. It was among the Alawite villages that revolted or resistedOttoman authority in the period immediately following theOttoman conquest of Syria in 1517.[2] By 1547, the village was recorded to have paid 472dirhems orpiasters and its inhabitants were classified as part of the AlawiteKalbiyya tribal confederation.[3]
