HMTV is an Indian 24-hourTelugu news channel launched on 12 February 2009.[1] The channel is operated by Hyderabad Media Pvt. Ltd, which also runs the English newspaperThe Hans India.[2][3] HMTV is a part of Kapil Group, promoted by K. Vaman Rao.[4][5][6] Kapil Group is a business conglomerate of over 30 companies whose first company, Kapil Chit Funds was started in 1981.[7][5][8][2]
HMTV launched on 12 February 2009 as a 24-hourTelugu news channel. It is operated by Hyderabad Media House Ltd.[9][10][6][11][1] The slogan of the channel is "Vaartha Aagadu, Nijam Daagadu".[2]
HMTV is also the first Telugu news channel to have anombudsman to carry out a critical review of its content and provide a conduit for viewers.[12]
The channel is owned by Kapil Group, promoted by K. Vaman Rao.[1][9][4] Kapil Group is a conglomerate of over 30 companies having presence in over 16 business activities.[7][8]
Kapil Chit Funds, the first company of the group started in 1981 atKarimnagar by K. Vaman Rao, aChartered Accountant by profession.[7][8] It later diversified into sectors like construction, property management, hospitality, manufacturing, media, energy, agriculture, healthcare, finance,IT.[7][5][8][11]
The channel broadcasts shows such as "Jordar Varthalu", and "Nela Thalli".[2] The public discussion program 'Dasa Disa' was widely acclaimed.[12] , 'Dasa Disa' on the channel gave them the confidence to venture into print media withThe Hans India in July 2011.[9] The channel has also been lauded for taking up issues like the girl child, building toilets in government schools, drinking water etc.[12]
So far it has not been able to perform too well at the ratings game and is yet to report profits.
