Guy BretonCM OQ (born April 1, 1950, inSaint-Hyacinthe, Quebec[1]) is aCanadianradiologist and academic administrator. From 2010 to 2020, he wasrector of theUniversité de Montréal inQuebec, Canada.[2][3][4]
Breton received aBachelor of Arts from theSéminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe, as well as amedical degree (M.D.) in 1974 fromUniversité de Sherbrooke.[1] After completing aresidency in diagnostic radiology atMcGill University, he complemented his training with afellowship inneuroradiology at theMontreal Neurological Institute and Hospital.[5]
In 1979, he joined the Department of Radiology, Radio-Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Université de Montréal, where he was promoted to full professor in 1994, and became head of the department in 1996.[1][3][5] He has also served as president of theAssociation des radiologistes du Québec from 1987 to 1997, where he negotiated budgets on behalf of nearly 500 radiologist members.[5] In 2010, he was appointed as the rector of theUniversité de Montréal.[5]
In 2009, he was awarded the Albert Jutras Prize from theAssociation des radiologistes du Québec.[1][6]
In 2014, Breton was named a Member of theOrder of Canada and, in 2020, and officer ofNational Order of Quebec.[7][8]
