Guido Piovene (27 July 1907 – 12 November 1974) was an Italian writer and journalist.

Biography

Born inVicenza into a noble family, Piovene graduated in philosophy inMilan and then devoted himself to journalism, notably collaborating withCorriere della Sera,La Stampa andIl Tempo.[1][2] He took part in the anti-fascist resistance with theMovimento Comunista d'Italia. According toFelice Chilanti's daughter, he wrote the statutes for its youth associationCOBA (so named in homage toJoseph Stalin's youthful pseudonym).[3]

His 1970 novelLe stelle fredde (The Cold Stars) won theStrega Prize.[1] In 1974 he co-founded the newspaperIl Giornale withIndro Montanelli.[1]
