Grolleaceae is amonotypic family ofliverworts belonging to the orderJungermanniales. The family consists of only one genus,GrolleaR.M.Schust..[1] It has only one known speciesGrollea antheliopsisR.M.Schust. from South America.[2][3]
The genus name ofGrollea is in honour of Riclef Grolle (Riclef Hans-Heinrich Grolle) (1934-2004), who was a German botanist (Bryology), plant researcher at theUniversity of Jena.[4]
The genus wascircumscribed byRudolf Mathias Schuster in Nova Hedwigia vol.8 on page 288 in 1964.[3]
