Golden Noble is an oldEnglishcultivar of domesticatedapple, which is especially used as acooking apple, since it is resulting in a sweetish puree when cooked and is a good choice forapple sauce.[2]
The fruits of this cultivar are light green and turn yellow gold with ripeness[3] and are very juicy, making it also a good choice forapple cider of a balanced tart and sweet taste.[4] It is considered of good taste by those who choose to eat them fresh.[3]
It was initially discovered, as achance seedling nearDownham Market,Norfolk, by Patrick Flanagan, head gardener forSir Thomas Hare ofStow Bardolph Hall.[3][4] He presented it in 1820 to theHorticultural Society of London.[4][5]
This tree is specializing for gardening, having a neat and tidy growing habit, and producing beautiful flowers. It have earned theAward of Garden Merit by theRoyal Horticultural Society in 1993.[4] Sugar 12%, acid 18g/litre, vitamin C 24mg/100g.[6]
It is an ancestor for theEdward VII apple.[4]
