Goytre (/ˈɡɔɪtrə/;Welsh:Goetre) is a village in thecommunity ofGoetre Fawr inMonmouthshire, south eastWales, United Kingdom.
The population of the whole of Goetre Fawr, including Goytre, taken at the2011 census was 2,393.[1]
Goytre is located five miles south ofAbergavenny and four miles north ofPontypool,Torfaen.
The word Goytre derives from the Welsh word for settlement/town in the woods.[2]
Goytre has acanalwharf[1] and visitor centre[2] on theMonmouthshire and Brecon Canal[3], complete with interactivesculptures[4]. The Llanover private estate, once presided over byLady Llanover owns the surrounding land.
