Global Cool was a green living campaign run by the Global Cool Foundation, a registeredclimate change charity in theUnited Kingdom. As well as running the Global Cool lifestyle magazine website, Global Cool Foundation also worked with corporate partners and theUKGovernment to promote sustainability to a mainstream audience. As of June 2018 the charity ceased to exist.[1]
Global Cool was founded in 2007 with a mission to raise awareness of climate change.Tony Blair endorsed the campaign at its launch party in10 Downing Street.[2] Global Cool worked withcelebrities and themedia andentertainment industries to promote green behaviours such as usingpublic transport and taking flight-free holidays.
The board of non-executive trustees was chaired byTessa Tennant,[3] who also foundedThe Ice Organisation.
Global Cool attracted the support of several famous names, includingLeonardo DiCaprio,Orlando Bloom,Sienna Miller,Scissor Sisters,Kasabian,Heather Graham,Josh Hartnett,Brandon Flowers,Johnny Borrell,Dave Grohl,[4]Amitabh Bachchan,[5]Rosario Dawson,Tony Blair,Shekhar Kapur,[6]KT Tunstall,Perry Farrell,[7]Maroon 5,[8]Scott Henshall,Adam Croasdell,Jo Wood, Leah Wood,Stella Tennant,VV Brown,Rick Edwards,Scott Mills,George Lamb,Mr Hudson,Gemma Cairney andGrace Woodward.
In 2007 Global Cool launched a mobile phone recycling scheme in partnership withVodafone to help fund its work.[9] Other corporate partners includedLogica andThe Body Shop.[10] Global Cool also received funding fromDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.[11]
