Glen MurphyMBE (born 6 April 1957) is a British actor and producer, best known as Firefighter George Green between 1988 and 2002 on the television dramaLondon's Burning.

Career

Murphy was the only actor to remain throughout the entire run ofLondon's Burning, which attracted 18.92 million viewers for its 5th series, and averaging 15 million in its 14-year reign. He was the subject ofThis Is Your Life in 1992. AfterLondon's Burning he appeared inThe Bill,Tank Malling, the Karl Howman directed dramaFathers of Girls, and alongsideJoely Richardson inShoreditch.[1]

His later work includes as a producer and lead actor in the film "Lords of London"(2014).[2] It won best film at the New York Hell's Kitchen Film Festival,[3] and he won the best Actor award at the Abruzzo film festival in Italy;[citation needed] it is released in the United States byLionsgate on 1 September 2015.

In 2020, he appeared in theFreddie Mills biopicFinger of Suspicion. He had a leading role in theRoyal National Theatre production ofPatrick Marber'sDealer's Choice (Writers Guild Award &Evening Standard Awards) in the West End of London in 1995.[citation needed] Glen played the lead in the national tour ofA Gentle Hook in 2004-05.

Early life

He attendedSt Bonaventure's Catholic School inForest Gate, where he was aguitarist in a localblues band, Bon's Boy.[4] He wonLondon andEssex championships infootball andboxing in his youth, also boxing internationally. And playing semi professional football with Enfield Town FC .Murphy has a 3rd Danblack belt inkarate in theKyokushin style and has trained inmartial arts for over 40 years.[5] His brother, Darren Murphy, was a guitarist in the punk bandWasted Youth.[6]

His career began in the playJohnny Boxer atHalf Moon Theatre in Alie St, East London, and then on toGuilty Generation staged at his father Terence Murphy's pub, The Bridge House inCanning Town,[7] and then off down the road toTheatre Royal inStratford, London, in their TIE Company Theatre Venture for a year.

He qualified as asports therapist in 2005 and runs his own sports injury clinic in Essex and Italy, and is a member of theSports Therapy Association.

Awards

He was awarded theFreedom of the City of London in 1995. He was also awarded aMember of the Order of the British Empire in 2007 for his charity work.[8][9]
