TheGihara or giharwar are a Hinducaste found in various states ofIndia. They belong to theGipsy clan. They are considered to be among the nomadic[1] or partially-settled communities.[2]
Gihara or giharwar people are migrants fromRajasthan, who went into diaspora after the war inHaldighati. This gave birth to their modern name in their language,Ghar harna orGreh hara ("we lost in war") slowly corrupted into Giharwar or gihara .In haldighati war they will fight but lost the war in history they belongs to rajpoot tribe (kabila).Their language is derived fromPersian.In history they are belongs tokshatriya varan . And their gotra's are very old from ancient time .the traditional trades of the people are clothing trading, artisan work like broom making, wood carving and many trades for living but excluding jwellery trade .
The Giharwar are strictlyendogamous and are divided into many exogamous clans. These are the Sora, Vaid , Sodha, sodhi,radisodha,rathi, Bais, Otwar, Gohar, gaur,goel,saini,rana,chauhan,rathore,monga,Marriayyah and Khatabiya.
Many Gihara peoplesare still involved in their traditional occupation of stone sculpting. Some in ancient times were involved in rope making and bamboo fencing. Many people still engage in traditional occupations such as "sirkiband". Some are engaged incottage industries.
