Garrett Nussmeier (born February 7, 2002) is anAmerican footballquarterback for theLSU Tigers. He is the son of former NFL player and coachDoug Nussmeier.
Nussmeier was born on February 7, 2002, inLake Charles, Louisiana.[2][3] Due to his fatherDoug's career as a football coach, he moved 12 times growing up, living in eight different states and Canada, while spending summers in Lake Charles, his mother's hometown.[3] Nussmeier attendedEdward S. Marcus High School inFlower Mound, Texas where he passed 3,788 yards and 38 touchdowns in his junior season.[4][5] As a senior, he passed for 2,815 yards with 33 touchdowns and five interceptions.[6] Nussmeier committed to playcollege football atLSU over offers fromTexas,Texas A&M,Miami,Georgia,Baylor, andNorth Carolina.[7][8]
Nussmeier played in four games as a true freshman beforeredshirting the season.[9] Following the departure ofMax Johnson from the team, LSU petitioned the NCAA to let him start theJanuary 2022 edition of the Texas Bowl but still maintain his redshirt status, which was denied.[10] Nussmeier finished the season with 29 pass completions on 57 attempts for 329 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions.[11]
Nussmeier competed withMyles Brennan and Arizona State transferJayden Daniels entering his redshirt freshman season in 2022, ultimately losing the starting job to Daniels.[12][13] Nussmeier entered seven games, all off the bench, throughout which he completed 62% of his passes: totaling 800 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions.[14] He made his first start with the team in the2024 ReliaQuest Bowl in January after Daniels sat out to prepare for the NFL draft, earning MVP honors after throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns.[15]
Nussmeier was named the starter for the2024 season.[16]

Nussmeier is aChristian.[17] Nussmeier's father,Doug Nussmeier, played college football at Idaho and in the NFL for theNew Orleans Saints before entering coaching.[18][19][20]
