Galong Lake (Chinese:嘎朗湖,Tibetan:དགའ་ལྷང་མཚོ), orGalang Tso,Galang Co, is located inBomê County,Nyingchi,Tibet Autonomous Region, this alpine wetland spans 1.5 km² at 3,200 meters elevation within theGalong National Wetland Park.[1][2]
Fed by glacial meltwater from theGangrigabu Range, its shoreline hosts dense stands ofHimalayan spruce (Picea smithiana) andTibetan cypress (Cupressus torulosa) The lake sustains 18 fish species, including endemicSchizothorax bomiensis, and serves as a wintering ground forblack-necked cranes (Grus nigricollis).[3][4]
Culturally significant as the heart of the ancientGalong Kingdom (1st–20th century CE), the lakeshore preserves ruins of the 13th-centuryQingwa Dazi Palace. LocalMonpa communities revere the site as the dwelling of mountain deities (yul lha), conducting annual circumambulation rituals during theSaga Dawa Festival.[5][6]
