Fredensborg Municipality (Danish:Fredensborg Kommune) is a municipality (Danish,kommune) inRegion Hovedstaden (Capital Region). The municipality covers an area of 112.13 km2 and has a total population of 42,186 (as of 1. January 2025). Its mayor, since 2010, isThomas Lykke Pedersen, a member of theSocial Democrats (Socialdemokraterne)political party.

The municipality was created on 1 January 2007, in a merger of the former municipalities ofKarlebo Kommune andFredensborg-Humlebæk Kommune ,switching the political powers from the conservative party to the Social Democrats.

Fredensborg Palace is theDanish Royal Family’s spring and autumn residence. QueenIngrid of Denmark andPrince Consort Henrik died there.
