Fontainemore (French:[fɔ̃tɛnmɔʁ]ⓘ;Valdôtain:Fontènemore or locallyFountramoura;IssimeWalser:Pischu) is atown andcomune in theAosta Valley region of north-westernItaly. It is one ofI Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy").[3]

Toponym

The toponym "Fontainemore" may derive from an old fountain called inFrench as « Fontaine de Saint-Maur » or « Fontaine de la mort ».[4]

Fontainemore was renamed "Fontanamora" in Italian in 1939 duringFascist rule in Italy. It was reverted to its original name in 1946.

Fontainemore is located in the middle of theLys Valley, near the chasm known asFrench:Gouffre de Guillemore. It is the most eastern municipality of the Aosta Valley.
