Infire safety,compartmentation in structures, such as land-basedbuildings, traffictunnels,ships,aerospace vehicles, orsubmarines, is an objective ofpassive fire protection, in which a structure is divided intofire compartments, which may contain single or multiple rooms, for the purpose of limiting the spread of fire, smoke andflue gases, in order to enable the three goals offire protection:

  • life safety
  • property protection
  • continuity of operations
