| Blazon InfoField | Deutsch:„Das Wappen der Stadt Wesel zeigt in rotem Feld ein silbernes Herzschild, das von drei nach rechts springenden silbernen Wieseln begleitet wird.“Erstmals erwähnt wird das Stadtwappen im Jahre 1397, als Bürgermeister, Schöffen und Rat einem Zinnmacher erlauben, als Qualitätszeichen "der stat wapen, dat syn drie weselken up enen schildeken" auf seinem guten Zinngeschirr benutzen zu dürfen. Die Verwendung der drei Wieselchen im Schild ist seit der zweiten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts hinreichend bezeugt auf städtischen Bauten, auf städtischen Fahnen und Wimpeln, auf dekorativen Abzeichen städtischer Bediensteter, auf Einrichtungsgegenständen im Rathaus und kostbaren Metallerzeugnissen der Gold- und Silberschmiede, welche der Rat aus Repräsentationsgründen zu verschenken pflegte. English:„Gules, an escutcheon Argent accompanied by three weasels Argent in ratio 2:1“The arms are mainly canting (Wesel = weasel). A weasel already appears on the first known seal, which dates from the early 13th century. The main image of the seal shows a gate with Emperor Heinrich VII and Count Theodor of Kleve. Under the gate the weasel is seen. In 1269 on a smaller seal only the weasel appears. Both the large and smaller seals remain similar until the 16th century. In the 14th century arms with three weasels are mentioned (these never appeared on the seals). Around 1600 the weasels are placed on the original arms of the counts of Kleve. |
