Fatepur is acensus town and agram panchayat within the jurisdiction of theFalta police station in theFaltaCD block in theDiamond Harbour subdivision of theSouth 24 Parganas district in theIndianstate ofWest Bengal.
Diamond Harbour subdivision is a rural subdivision with patches of urbanization. Only 14.61% of the population lives in the urban areas and an overwhelming 85.39% lives in the rural areas. In the western portion of the subdivision (shown in the map alongside) there are 11census towns. The entire district is situated in theGanges Delta and the western part, located on the east bank of theHooghly River, is covered by the Kulpi Diamond Harbour Plain, which is 5–6 metres above sea level.Archaeological excavations atDeulpota andHarinarayanpur, on the bank of the Hooghly River indicate the existence of human habitation more than 2,000 years ago.[3][4][5]

According to the2011 Census of India, Fatepur had a total population of 8,105 of which 4,117(51%) were males and 3,988 (49%) were females. There were 617 persons in the age range of 0–6 years. The total number of literate persons in Fatepur was 6,549 (87.46% of the population over 6 years).[6]
According to the District Census Handbook 2011, Fatepur covered an area of 2.7588 km2. Among the civic amenities, the protected water supply involved uncovered wells and hand pumps. It had 806 domestic electric connections. Among the educational facilities it had were 4 primary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 secondary schools, 2 senior secondary schools, the nearest general degree college atDiamond Harbour 13 km away. Three important commodities it produced were: rice, dal (legume) and oil.[7]
Fatepur is on theNational Highway 12.[8]
Fatepur Srinath Institution is a higher secondary institution.[9]
Tatini Balika Bidyapith is a Bengali-medium girls only institution established in 1948. It has facilities for teaching from class V to class XII.[10]
Falta Block Primary Health Centre, with 10 beds, atFalta, is the major government medical facility in the Falta CD block.[11]
