Escudilla Mountain is located inApache County,Arizona, United States, and is part of theWhite Mountains. The peak is approximately 3.5 miles from the Arizona-New Mexico border.[3] The summit is the highest point in theEscudilla Wilderness which is administered as part of theApache-Sitgreaves National Forest. It is also thethird-highest mountain peak in Arizona.
The area was severely impacted by theWallow Fire of June 2011.
A portion ofAldo Leopold'sSand County Almanac discusses Escudilla and that it was the location of the lastgrizzly bear killed in Arizona (in 1936[4]).
