Japanese screenwriter and film director (born 1961)
Eriko Kitagawa (北川 悦吏子) (born December 24, 1961) is a Japanesescreenwriter andfilm director. She is best known for writingJapanese television dramas, notablyLong Vacation (1996),Beautiful Life (2000),Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi (2002), andOrange Days (2004).[1]
In 2009, Kitagawa made her directorial debut in thecoming-of-age filmHalfway, which she also wrote and co-edited.[2] She then wrote and directed the 2012 filmI Have to Buy New Shoes, a contemporaryromantic comedy set inParis.[3][4][5] Both films were produced by her friendShunji Iwai, and Kitagawa appeared in his 2011documentaryFriends after 3.11, which explores the aftermath of the2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.[6]
